| Matt is a composer and guitarist, and an ad hoc recordist of environmental sounds, noise, and street sounds. |
| He took up guitar around 16 and played in garage bands at many battle of the bands, parties, and jam sessions. For several years after high school he played regional bars in rock/pop/psychedelic bands in the southwest Florida area, and later took jazz lessons with Charlie Encinosa in Tampa, Florida.

| Next, Matt focused on composition at the University of South Florida, Tampa (Bachelor of Music), primarilly studying with Hilton Jones while also studying classical guitar with Adam Holzman. Thereafter, he completed his Master of Fine Arts degree in composition at Princeton University, studying variously with Paul Lansky, Steve Mackey, Claudio Spies, and Eleanor Hovda. |
| Matt has created over six cd albums of original music, composed for indie film and video, and various works have been presented nationally and internationally. His piece Collage (for percussion and electronic soundtrack) is published by HoneyRock, with the score available through HoneyRock and J.W. Pepper. His two orchestra pieces, Winter Solstice and Der Waltzer Des Laufers, were performed by the Florida Orchestra. |
| As a guest artist, examples of Matt's guitar performances include: recording 3 tracks on heavy metal singer Midnight's Sakada album (Black Lotus Records), tracks on David Claman's album Gradus (Albany Records), and sarod master Pritam Ghosal's fusion song "Save The World." |
| Additionally, Sound Janitor is an experimental group he founded with Greg Diamond (multi percussion). Sound Janitor has recorded two cd's and has performed in the New York area, including an hour long live fully improvised performance for an experimental dance work. |
